Local heart patient dies just weeks after finally qualifying for Medicare
Posted on November 23, 2009 at 3:31 PM

Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - A Louisville heart patient denied Medicaid because of what he earned in disability payments has died.

Chris Whitmer was 39-years-old.

In February of 2008, Whitmer shared his hopes for a heart transplant with WHAS11 News.

The problem was that he made $27 too much per month to qualify for Medicaid.

After a two year waiting period, Whitmer was approved for Medicare earlier this month but died last Wednesday.

Whitmer is survived by his two children and his wife Harriet.

"My husband was the definition of what a man should be. He always worked hard to support his family, he was a faithful and a devoted husband and father," says Harriet.

and again...........if he had lived in Canada or England....he would have had a fighting chance....but he lives in the country with the best medical facilities in the world....and the cold heart of the government.

RIP........and prayers to your family.

You are absolutely right Snow, at one point Chris and I even discussed him coming over to the UK, and staying with me and my hubby so he could be treated here, thats how desperate he became when they cut his medicaid

I was travelling on the bus home from picking my travel pass up yesterday
and he came into my mind, really strong, I could almost hear his voice
I knew then he wasnt on this plane any longer

Such a waste to lose a star that shone so brightly

Very sad to hear this; he was a fine man. He will be missed by everyone he touched.

I often thought of him and my father together. Our losses reach to the heart. Heaven and earth will pass away but the word of the Spirit will never pass away. Today lets remember the Spirit that will remember all of us forever.

... at a loss for words ... He was a wonderful teacher, sharing his knowledge in a way that everyone could understand. I miss him but trust that he is safe and out of pain in the arms of the Creator. *sniff*

Prayers for his loved ones.

He was always so selfless and shared his knowledge with everyone in this forum and other forums. I learned a GREAT deal from him and I still use what he taught us everyday when it comes to predicting weather.

That newspaper article just makes me wanna vomit. It is so horrible. I still remember the photo he shared with us showing the t-shirt that his beautiful daughter made with her sweet loving little hands, saying "My daddy needs a new heart." Brings tears to my eyes thinking about it.

Rest in peace, Chris. Sending loving prayers to your family. I know you will be standing over them guarding them just as you tried to guard and warn everyone while you were here. Now your warrior spirit is no longer bound by a weak fragile body.

I am going to light a candle tonight for him.

I think he is/was an awesome person. I love all his weather stuff. I always knew if I wanted the latest info on severe weather, volcanoes, hurricanes, Christodd had the info before anyone else.
Well, it was his time. Don't get me started about the US nonhealth care system.
We send you light and love Christodd, and surround you with billions of angels of Light on your journey home. You are/were unique and special. Our hearts are with you. Thanks for enriching my life sweet one.

This is such sad news - I always loved listening to Chris' take on what the weather situation was going to be in different places and he was so good to give us warning. Rest easy, good man.

Sad, sad, sad. Loving prayers for him and his family.

And anger at the US and other corrupt systems... They let my little brother die too, for lack of coverage.

It's government of the poor and middle class, by the blindly selfish rich and for the blindly selfish rich. No, I don't want to turn this into a political thread, but there is something seriously wrong with this whole picture.

Oh, I am so sad to read this news!!!! He was such an informative delight and I loved reading his posts!

My late fiance went through the same Catch-22. He tried to apply for disability due to a failing heart, with only a 17% ejection fraction (blood was only pumping out 17% of norm) and they told him it could be 5 months before he'd even hear if he'd been approved or not! And the doctor told him he could no longer work, but he decided to just keep working as he had no choice (child support payments due and medical bills) and died that same year. Sad I was so angry and frustrated about the situation, as it seemed to me the government would do *anything* to stall so they wouldn't have to pay out any $$.

Well, may Chris rest in a peaceful, loving heaven. I'm sure he'll be watching over his wife and children. Such a sad loss for them....

Here's to Chris Todd Wittmer, a wonderful, interesting and provocative poster, who educated all of us and gave us many thought-provoking ideas. He opened my mind, and I am sad to learn of his passing. I wish the best for his family, I pray for his soul and know his quest for truth and light is now complete. Let us keep him in our hearts always. :cand:

I prayed for Chris and family at the sweatlodge today. I told a little of his story and prayed for all those in his situation, no health insurance, or waiting waiting to qualify or making $27 dollars too much. I prayed for the situation of the health care problem in this country, for divine intervention.

I really hate it that he's gone.
I'll bet his spirit was in Haiti helping rescue people or comfort people who would not make it. He has to be somewhere doing service for humankind.
I feel him now saying YES.

Here's a favorite quote. I'll post it again for Christodd.

----------------------------------------

A woman from Mar del Plata, Argentina asked Maharaji,

"How can I overcome having lost someone I love very much?"

Maharaji answered:

"There is not a question of being able to replace that person or overcome your sadness, but know that in our memories that person still lives on. Extract the beautfiul from the situation. The love you have for that person never has to end. That love never has to die....

And that person, although they may not be alive physically, will live in your love, in your feeling, and can live there for the rest of your life. Love is what is important. Love is what brings us together. Love is not about lamenting. Love is not about looking at the past and wondering how it could have been and how it wasn't. Love is not about the things that are not. Love is about what is, what is felt in the heart at this moment... Fortunately for all of us, even though there's loss, there is something that we will always have. Something that nobody can take away from us, not even death. And that is love."
